Our Homeschool Room

This room is the heart of our home! Three years ago, at the end of my twin’s Kindergarten year, if you would’ve told me I’d be here talking homeschool rooms - I would’ve had no clue what you were even talking about. I didn’t even know homeschool rooms were a thing. I’d never googled it, never looked one up on a hashtag or Pinterest, and certainly never watched a YouTube video of one. But, well, turns out there is a whole community with homeschool rooms and moms and once I discovered it, I realized that is definitely where my heart is. I love it so much and as we’ve pieced together this room, I feel like these touches have added a such a depth to our home.

Some people may not have the desire for a dedicated school area and some others simply don’t have the space. I am convinced you can make it just about whatever you want though. And, of course, you don’t need a school room to homeschool!

So having said that, let’s jump into the fun stuff. We have a few different areas in our home that have homeschooling vibes, but today I am just sharing the links for our main school room. I’ve tried to link the exact products we have to make it easier for you, but, if not, I’ve tried to find the best item that’s similar.

Open Shelves Wall

Supplies:

Map & White Board Nook

  • School table: Our table top is from Ikea (not the exact top, but similar) and the adjustable legs are from Amazon. The kid size chairs are from Lifetime and we bought these at Costco years ago. For more on our school tables and desks, you can check out this blog post.

  • Wooden Colored Pencil Caddy from RBS

  • Moroccan Rug

  • Paper Banner Decor: Most of the paper banners I use are going to be from Pippi Post. I had her Magic Mama subscription for a year and stocked up and we just reuse them now.

  • Ikea Bamboo Shelving

  • White Board: We’ve had this for years and I don’t know where I got it, but it’s pretty standard and of course Amazon has similar ones. Mine measures 36x24.

  • Utah Wall Map

  • US and World Wall Maps: I am linking to the exact link I ordered from here, but these do not look like my maps any longer. I think it’s because if you scroll down and look under which maps Swift Maps offer - I can see my maps. They are the ones that are called the Contemporary Elite Series. I can’t find these anymore though. Mine measure 24x36 and these are close, but not exactly the same. Mine came pre-laminated which I would highly recommend. We can write on ours with dry erase marker which I do all the time and they hold up really well. I also get asked a lot about how I adhered them to the wall-we used packing tape. We may regret this one day, but it’s held up amazing over the last two years and has survived two toddlers.

  • Place Value Flip Chart: This looks like its unavailable — here is a similar one.

  • Trash can is a laundry hamper from At-Home. Here is a similar one. I took the linen out and have a garbage bag tied to the side handles.

My Desk

Cabinetry and Desktop: All of our cabinetry is from Ikea. We used the kitchen builder to design our layout and got the cheapest door fronts which, at the time were, Haggeby. I am pretty sure these are phasing out though. We dressed up the cabinets with these great and super affordable cabinet pulls. The open shelving in-between the top cabinetry is also from Ikea and so are all our drawer organizers. My husband custom made the desktop with our leftover walnut hardwood floors.

Decorative Globe

Narnia Art and Puppy Art

Iris Storage Holders: I use these to store our seasonal items so they’re all prepped and easy for me to rotate in and out.

Coilbinder: 12 mm coils are what I use the most. There is a tool you can use to crimp the coils, but I lost it so I just use scissors to cut and then bend them with my fingers which I think is easier to use anyway. You’ll want vinyl backings (I hope these are good quality - the ones I have are great, but no longer available.) And transparent binding covers.

Swingline: I have both this and the coil binder, but I’ll probably sell the Swingline eventually, because I don’t use it very often. The coils for these are more expensive, but they’re reusable and can open so you can change out the materials in your projects. I don’t love how loud it is and it can only punch 6 pages at a time (vs 30 with the coil bind). But it’ll be totally dependent on your projects.

Laminator and Laminator Pouches: I’ve had this laminator since 2016 and it’s still going strong!

Sticker Paper and Watercolor Paper

Pencil Sharpener and Pencils

Papercutter: I’ve had mine since I was in high school so it’s old, but I love the rotary style so I linked one of those.

Printer: EcoTank 3760 - I’d highly recommend this printer! We’ve gotten so much use out of it and never have to worry about printing in color. We did pay $300 for this at Costco a few years ago. Now days, if you could get this for $350 I think they’d be a good deal, but even $400ish isn’t too bad. I think it’s totally work it for how much we’ve printed.

I think that’s it! I am sure I probably missed something so if I did, let me know. I’ll do a full walk through of everything and our cupboard spaces on IG and save it under my story highlights. Have fun!
